As a little girl I always considered one of the biggest tragedies that could happen in my life would be if I suddenly became allergic to strawberries. I loved strawberries, grew strawberries, and even got up at 6am in the summer to go pick strawberries. I still love strawberries and can happily say, not one allergic reaction.

However; doctors, gurus, nurses, health fanatics and trusted friends have all confirmed that my other favorite food fetish -sugar- is basically and undeniably "cancer fertilizer".

I have Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. That's a tumor the size of an Oreo. Ya know....about as long as a Tootsie Roll Midgie? Have you ever just downed a spoonful of Nesquik powder without any milk? About that size. Do you see my dilema? I dont' just crave sugar....I think in terms of sugar!

I am in big trouble.

  1. OK, I will officially stop complaining that I can't eat anything because of my new little guy's sensitive tummy. At least I can eat skittles! And I honest to goodness actually have strawberry Nesquik in my pantry... so I am SOOOOOOOOO sorry you can't have sugar. That really just isn't fair on top of everything else, sheesh.

  2. Now I feel bad for sending you candy. Give it to the kids to make up for being less than pleasant the past few days. ;)

  4. Never feel bad for giving me sugar (and that's not just the junkie talkin') I do give it to the kids! It's great bribery, plus...it's the thought that counts, and I'm not just saying that. The other day when I was being so wicked, Mark....who usually throws his body between me and sugar....actually requested someone PLEASE bring me some chocolate FAST. So it's ok in moderation (and desperation). And yes...it is only refined sugar. we are learning to use honey and fruit juices to sweeten things. In the long run..it will be a blessing to not be such a sugar freak, ya' know....the whole girlish figure thing???? Love you guys

  5. It will take a week or so to get off. Sugar is super addictive. Once you are weened and you treat yourself to a treat, it actually won't taste as good (at least that's been my experience). But you can rekindle your addiction toot sweet (no pun intended).

Have you ever used Stevia? It's a very sweet tasting herb many people use to take care of that sweet tooth.
